L.C. Adcock Resigns from GHS Board of Trustees

Granville Health System (GHS) has announced that L. C. Adcock resigned from their Board of Trustees effective April 1, 2019. Granville County Commissioner and GHS Board of Trustees member David Smith replaces him as board chair.

GHS CEO John F. Snow said, “We sincerely thank Mr. Adcock for more than 20 years of service to this health system and a lifetime of dedication and commitment to Granville County.”

Throughout his long career in public service, Adcock promoted the ideas of leadership and “community first”. His role in education spanned 35 continuous years. He held the position of Superintendent of Granville County Schools from December 11, 1967 to June 30, 1985. In addition, Adcock held the positions of assistant superintendent, school principal, and teacher.

In November 1990, Adcock was elected for a four-year term to the Granville County Board of Commissioners. He was re-elected in 1994 for another term and served as Chairman of the Board for two years. An active board member, Adcock also held a chair on the Departmental Operations and Financial Operations & Personnel Committees.

Adcock’s contributions to the Granville community have been immeasurable. While serving as a Commissioner, he also stepped in as interim County Manager and liaison to the school board, once again answering the call of public service. His name has been synonymous with success; effectively managing public projects while holding membership on the Vance/Granville District Health Department Board, Oxford/Granville Disabilities Advisory Committee, Oxford Economic Development Commission Board, Motor Vehicle Valuation Review Committee, and Hospital Finance & Planning Group.

As a member of the Granville Health System Board of Trustees, Adcock has led the organization through critical times of change. Newly elected to the position of chairman in 2006, he began the process of moving away from a national management firm. As he successfully transitioned the organization from a managed medical center to an independent community health system, Adcock positioned Granville Health System as a community health partner and medical service provider of choice for the region. Adcock’s leadership allowed the health system to prosper, be a vital part of the community, and a good employer in the county.

Through his tenure on the health system’s governing body, Adcock unified a Board of Trustees calling for focus and achievements in quality care measures, successful patient satisfaction initiatives, and supporting a vision of quality care and service. Through education and development programs, the board has become an informed and guiding force under Adcock’s leadership. “The recognition of an effective leader is not always measured by the strength of his or her voice or the haste to action. A true measure of a respected leader is the level to which a room quietens when he or she speaks. It has been impressive and truly my honor to witness the response to such a great leader and how he is revered in whatever forum he is present in. It is clear to me that his leadership to this health system and the time he served the people of Granville County in many leadership roles is remarkable,” says Mr. Snow.

GHS has undergone an unprecedented level of success under L.C. Adcock’s leadership. As chairman of the board, Adcock led the health system to undergo physical growth with the addition of a new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department and a new medical office building scheduled to open this summer.

“We thank Mr. Adcock for his leadership,” said John F. Snow, GHS Chief Executive Officer. “By reinvesting in our community, we are ensuring that Granville Health System continues to deliver the highest quality care and customer service to our patients.”
